Grand Canyon Rafting 1981

In 1981 I set out with Howard Donner and a group of friends, some of them professional river guides like Howard, to do a private raft trip of the entire length of the Grand Canyon of Colorado River. Along with the rafts, there were a few people in our group that kayaked. We rafted about 280 miles, starting at Lees Ferry, just below Lake Powell, and ending at Lake Mead.
The Grand Canyon in Arizona is a natural formation with layered bands of red rock, revealing millions of years of geological history in cross-section. The canyon averages 10 miles across and a mile deep along its 277-mile length. The Colorado River has around 160 rapids in the canyon, and as you’ll see in the photos, some of them are quite exciting, to say the least.
