Sierra High Route 1988

Ski Touring and Mountaineering Menu
This six-day ski mountaineering traverse crosses the Sierra Nevada over nine high cols and passes. As the name implies, the route stays high, between 10,500' and 13,000'. There were five of us, all skiing on telemark gear: myself, SP Parker, Andy Selters, Hillary Ort, and Mark Houston. We started on the east side of the Sierra Nevada near the town of Independence and skied up and over Shepard’s Pass and on to the Tyndall Plateau. We continued down into Milestone Basin and along the Great Western Divide past Triple Divide Peak and Deadman Canyon before arriving at the Tablelands. We passed by the Pear Lake Hut and ended the tour at Wolverton on the West side of the Sierra Nevada.
