Hiking Mont Rochelle Nature Preserve
About an hour’s drive from Cape Town, the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve (part of the UNESCO-declared Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve) offers spectacular views of the Franschhoek Valley, diverse plant life and 19 miles of hiking trails. We hiked the Uitkyk Trail, a 4 mile out and back trail. The Uitkyk Trail terminus and panoramic viewpoint boasts a spectacular view of the secluded Wemmershoek valley and Wemmershoek Dam, which supplies water to Cape Town and surrounding areas.
