Day 5 St Bernard Monastery To Cabane Du Velan

From the St Bernard Monastery we skied back down to the Super St Bernard ski area and took the poma lift up to where we started skiing to the Cabane du Velan. Along our route we witnessed a helicopter rescue of two people who fell while bootpacking up a couloir. Mark helped guide the helicopters to land. The rescue was successful! The Cabane du Velan is a futuristic-looking wooden building with a metallic shell with its lenticular layout forming a ship’s bow. It is located in a prominent position above the road to the Great St Bernard Pass.
